Maths Olympiad

In 1959, Romania organized the first International Mathematical Olympiad with other six participating Eastern European countries. Since then it has been held every year except 1980. Each year about 90 countries send teams of up to six students to compete.

The three main objectives of the International Mathematical Olympiad are to challenge students gifted in mathematics with non-routine questions, to share the mathematics curriculum and its teaching practice worldwide, and to promote cordial international relations between students and teachers.

In 1986, Singapore sent her first national team to take part in the International Mathematical Olympiad. Thereafter, material that coaches students for topics related to Maths Olympiad becomes popular in Singapore. A shop with such coaching materials is now available on site for students in the USA.
